Coach Kao
Coach Louis Kao has been coaching adults and youths for over 20 years, specializing in the Middle Distance and Long Distance Events both locally and nationally. He is Founder and Head Coach of 2ndWind Athletics which was formed in 2005. Based in the Tri-Valley Area, 2ndWind Athletics is a private running club for middle school, high school, college, and master runners. Some of the successes produced while training with 2ndWind racing resulted in Junior Olympic champions, state-runner ups, regional champions and qualifiers, district champions and 5K, 10K, marathon age group winners.
Coach Kao served as Cross-Country and Track & Field head coach at The Athenian School in Danville CA for one season (2014-2015). Prior to Athenian, he served for two seasons (2013-2014) as head coach at Hart Middle School in Pleasanton where he organized and hosted the school’s first meet in its history.
In his spare time, he volunteers as head coach at St. Isidore & St. Joan of Arc CYO program in San Ramon Valley. Coach Kao was also an assistant coach in Cal High Cross Country and Track & Field for three years.
Coach Kao is Chinese Canadian. He is an architect by profession. He lived in Toronto, New York, Boston, Hartford and Chicago before settling in San Ramon in 1997 with wife Ruby and three children: Nicholas, Kathlyn and Kyle.
